                                               CLOSEOUT MEMORANDUM

 Case Number: I-16-0008-O Page 1 of 1

Our office received an allegation of plagiarism in a proposal.1 Specifically, a sample
announcement letter, appended to the end of the proposal, contained text copied from another
university website. The letter was not integral to the proposal and was not required as a part of the
proposal. The letter clearly had “Sample” stamped on it.

The PI admitted that he copied the text but only meant to include the letter as an example of
how they would recruit students if the proposal was awarded. The PI’s actions are clearly a
questionable research practice but we do not believe that the actions rise to the level of research
misconduct. Therefore, we wrote a warning letter to the PI.

This case is closed with no further action taken.
