                                            CLOSEOUT MEMORANDUM

Case Number: 1-16-0102-0 Page 1of1

We received an allegation that a University 1 failed to notify NSF of the departure of a Principal
Investigator (PI) 2 on three NSF awards, 3 and that award funds may have been misused since the
        PI' s departure.

The University did eventually notify NSF of the PI's departure. The University, the PI, and the
three NSF program officers discussed how to proceed in completing the projects and closing out
each of the NSF awards, which resulted in outcomes acceptable to the program officers. We
requested and reviewed the award general ledgers and found no evidence of misuse of award

We notified the University that in the future NSF needs to be properly notified in a timely
manner about the departure of a PI.

This case is closed with no further action taken.
