                                            CLOSEOUT MEMORANDUM

 Case Number: I-17-0058-O Page 1 of 1

Our office received an allegation that a PI1 and a Co-PI2 submitted a Proposal 3 containing
material plagiarized from a previously awarded NSF proposal 4 and its earlier declined version 5
(Source Proposals). Our review found that the Proposal did contain a small amount of copied
text, that the text was copied from a source other than the Source Proposals, that no material was
copied from other sources, and that there was no copied text in other NSF proposals the PI or Co-
         PI submitted. 6

Given the de minimis amount of copied text, we sent both the PI and Co-PI questionable research
practice letters, reminding them of their responsibilities regarding appropriate citations.

Accordingly, this case is closed with no further action taken.
